I’m kicking off a month of fiesta favorites with the most essential recipe: margarita mix. I really like to use fresh-squeezed juices for cocktails–it makes a world of difference! Another perk is you can make as little or as much as you need!

This batch of margarita mix is TRIPLE citrus: grapefruit, lime and orange. With margaritas, I love a squeeze of orange to sweeten it. I’ve tried a few grapefruit margaritas and they can be a little too tart or bitter. The orange and lime mellow out the flavor, it’s SO refreshing.

If you haven’t made your own simple syrup at home, it’s exactly as the name says–simple. You can either heat the water/sugar mixture in a pot on the stove or in the microwave. Either way works fine! Since I’m watching my sugar, I use stevia or Splenda for my sugar, rather than cane. Whatever you want or have on hand works!

Triple Citrus Margarita Mix

This fresh-squeezed homemade mix will be your new go-to for taco night! Using grapefruit, orange and limes, this is super refreshing and perfect for a warm summer day.

Course: Drinks
Servings: 8 margaritas
Ingredients
  • 2 whole grapefruits
  • 2 whole oranges
  • 3 whole limes one for garnish
  • 1/2 cup filtered water
  • 1/2 cup sweetener of choice (I use Splenda)
Instructions
  1. Juice the grapefruits, oranges and 2 limes using a fruit reamer or juicer. I like to use a pour-able container.

  2. In a separate container (I use a quart sized mason jar), add sugar and water. Microwave on high for 3 minutes, stirring every 1 minute. Allow to cool for 5 minutes.

  3. Slowly pour the fruit juice into the simple syrup container. Stir. Chill before serving.

  4. To serve: fill a glass with ice. Pour 1.5 oz tequila, 1 oz triple sec and 1/3 cup margarita mix. Top with lemon-lime pop. Serve with a lime wedge. (Optional: garnish rim with sugar/salt mixture).
