This is sure to be a new fall favorite for the whole family: Apple Cider Slushie!
For us, fall means APPLES not pumpkins. Michigan offers so many different amazing varieties of produce, but apples are hands down the most delicious. An October Michigan honeycrisp apple CANNOT be beat! I love when they get super cheap. I stock up for months.
Did you know that you can store apples in your pantry for up to 3 months?! The key is to wrap them individually in newspaper. Apples release an acid which causes them to quickly ripen anything around them. This is why apples and bananas should be stored separately. When you wrap the apples in newspaper, they keep from spoiling and will be delicious into the winter. Such a great budget saver!
We always enjoy a nice cold glass of cider, but I was looking for a new twist. Last week, Gabby had her first field trip for kindergarten and the farm we visited was serving Cider Slushies. Ding ding! The light bulb went off in my head. While just plain ice and cider is delish, I needed to take it up another level with another layer of flavor. Believe it or not, it needs a hint of citrus–which is fresh-squeezed orange juice.

- 2 cups ice
- 1 orange , juiced
- 1.5 cups Litehouse Honeycrisp Cider
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon pie spice (optional)
-
Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth.
-
If not slushie enough, add more ice.
-
Top with an additional dash of pie spice.
-
Enjoy!
This weekend, the Cubs were playing THE MOST IMPORTANT GAME EVER and Ricky was pacing–he needed a nice drink. Enter: the Boozy Apple Cider Slushie. Just add 1.5 ounces of Apple Whiskey and enjoy! Beware: it’s dangerous!
What is your favorite use for apple cider? Have you tried honeycrisp apples yet?
I am in search of a place that knows how to make commercial apple cider slushies. You mentioned your daughters kindergarten field trip farm served them. Can you please share any contact info name or phone number or web site for that farm?
Much appreciated!
Thank you
