Shipt 101: Everything You Need to Know!

posted on April 25, 201720 Comments

This post is a collaboration with Shipt at Meijer. All opinions are my own.

Let’s chat about Shipt, the new grocery delivery service for Meijer! Hear my reviews, tips and everything you need to know…from a budget shopper point of view.

All about Shipt, the new grocery delivery service from Meijer! Hear my reviews, tips and everything you need to know...from a budget shopper point of view. via @DashOfEvansThe buzz around social media in my area has been all about Shipt lately. It’s hard to not hear people on Facebook gushing about how great the deliveries are. Groceries from Meijer delivered? Is this too good to be true?! I had to learn all about it and do some research. As a bargain shopper, I was on a mission to see if using Shipt would still keep us on track with our grocery budget.

Let’s start from the top. Here are some essential details to get you started:

  1. Pricing. Shipt has a monthly ($14) or yearly ($99) subscription fee. If your order is over $35, there is no charge for delivery. You can cancel anytime, you’re not locked into any contract.
  2. Locations. Currently in Michigan, it’s available for the Detroit and Grand Rapids area, quickly moving to the rest of the state soon. Also available in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. It will spread to all major markets in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Wisconsin.
  3. Delivery Times. Since Meijer is open 24/7, deliveries are available 7 days a week and you can schedule almost any hour of the day.
  4. Payment methods. Any major credit card is accepted. Unfortunately, no Meijer gift cards can be used, also no coupons or Mperks. There are Shipt gift cards that you (or someone else) can add to your account. Also, food stamps are not currently approved.
  5. Tips. Tipping is just like any delivery, completely optional. After delivery, you can add the tip with the app on the credit card already being charged. No need to carry cash!

All about Shipt, the new grocery delivery service from Meijer! Hear my reviews, tips and everything you need to know...from a budget shopper point of view. via @DashOfEvansMy first order was super organized. I made a meal plan and schedule for our week, which I highly recommend. I also shopped the weekly sale items to stay on budget. It was nice to not have to worry about clipping coupons before shopping. I was bummed I couldn’t earn points towards my mPerks rewards.

After completing my first order, here are my initial thoughts:

  • Prices are obviously going to be a bit higher, but certain items weren’t bad at all. For instance, they had a 10/$10 and those items were $1.19. Other items like produce and meat were quite a bit higher, if not on sale. I would probably get certain staples in store.
  • Completing an order takes about 30 minutes. I took my time to find the best prices and made sure I had everything for my weekly menu. I ordered the night before delivery and there were plenty of times to choose from for the next day.
  • Granted, I didn’t need every component for my meals, but I was able to keep my order under $75, including tip. I enjoyed not having to stress about going to the store and also there is less temptation to buy items not on my list! For me, the small up-charge on items is worth it to not buy extra items in store. Those clearance end-caps get me every time!
  • Your Shipt shopper has plenty of communication with you.  You’ll know when they are shopping, checking out and on their way. Also, if any items are out of stock, you can get substitutions or change your list. Forgot something? Your shopper can add it! SO nice!
  • Once you complete your order, there’s a “Buy Again” section. This will save TONS of time for my next order and you can easily click on common household items to add to your cart.

See my Facebook Live video to see our delivery and my tips!

Aside from general groceries, Shipt offers almost any other item in the store! I can see myself running out of diapers when the little guy comes and using Shipt to avoid a trip to the store. As you can see below the prices aren’t bad at all. You can also get health and beauty items, plus household items such as paper goods or cleaners.

Will Shipt replace all of my grocery shopping? No, but I LOVED it for convenience during a crazy week. Also, as mentioned, once the baby comes deliveries will help out so much.

I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’ve tried Shipt! What was your favorite part? Any tips?

I also have an awesome GIVEAWAY for you: a FREE year subscription to Shipt! Enter below:

Love it! I feel so torn on the tipping thing, but I have used this twice so far and it’s been really nice. I don’t know that it will replace shopping completely, but since I’m in pantry clean out mode, it has been great for just here and there use.

Shoppers get paid per order to personally shop for you. This means picking out items, walking all over the store, paying for them, packing their car and caring them up to your door. If you don’t think that deserves a tip then you should do your own shopping.

It is so fun to read your experience and opinion! The way you shared how to use Shipt and still save money is perfect! I would love to give your readers a little insight to the shopper side. I’ve been a shopper since the day it launched here and I absolutely love it! I Believe in the company and how they treat their customers and employees. There are growing pains to be ironed out but it will continue to be amazing!
There are a lot of miscommunications about how shoppers get paid and that they work for Meijer. All the shoppers I’ve met do it because it’s fun and because they love the feeling of helping the people who have ordered. Any company has to make some money to do what they do but the advertised pay is a misconception. We receive a strict percentage of each order plus a flat dollar amount. We are employed as “contracted” so the mileage is up to us and tips go a long way ? I have three young kids and my 5YO is special needs. I am able to work only when I can, pad our budget a little, and have a blast (almost) every time.

I haven’t tried Shipt yet, but it would be GREAT to save a trip to the store (since I always find myself shopping on Saturday, at the very last minute, to get the sale items). I would love to try out fresh produce on my first order, just to see how the shoppers do at selecting it!

I have used Shipt and love it so far! I spend far less than when I enter the store myself, and the time it saves is well worth it to me. The Shipt shoppers have been wonderful. I truly get everything at Meijer and my Shipt shoppers have been able to pick up everything from pool shock and birdseed to wine!

Thank you, Shipt customers! I’ve been a shopper for a year now and love it! What’s better than spending other peoples’ money? LOL….all kidding aside, it’s rewarding when you know you are making a difference in the lives of the harried moms, the elderly and everyone else for whatever reason. For those who wonder what we make – we get $5 plus 7.5% of the store receipt. Tips aren’t required but very much appreciated! How much should you tip? We are providing a service just as your hairdresser and waitress does. Consider how much time you would spend going to the grocery store to purchase your groceries. Two hours? Have kids? Three hours? Impulse items? Get your groceries delivered to your door when you get home from work. Wow! Isn’t that great!? Get your grocery shopping done while you binge watch your favorite show with your feet up. Isn’t that great? Spending time with your kids. Cleaning your house. Doing yard work. The list is endless! The rating system. Many shoppers pride themselves on the job they do for you so rate accordingly. The higher our rating, the more shops we are offered. If the store is out of stock on something, please know many shoppers will ask an employee to check stock. Please do not rate us on out of stock items. Think you received a wrong item? We are required to scan the UPC. Maybe the packaging has changed. Missing items? Wrong items? You have 45-60 minutes after delivery to contact your shopper. Most will correct the issue so don’t mark us down unless you’ve tried to resolve any issues. If we don’t know what might be wrong, we can’t learn. Rating is anonymous. We don’t know who rated us what. Member matching. If you rate a shopper a ‘5’, you may get that shopper again if they are on the schedule the next time you order. Happy Shipting! Questions? You can contact me at julziexoxo@gmail 🙂
