This apple pie moonshine is delicious…but you better watch out: it has a major kick! Try making this for a holiday gift.

Delicous and a perfect gift: Apple Pie Moonshine. It's a great way to warm you up in the winter and SO easy to make! via @DashOfEvansI’ve been catching up on Scandal lately and Mellie has me craving some moonshine. I came across this recipe for an apple pie variety, I knew it was a must try. Be warned: this moonshine sneaks up on you!

I made my first batch of this slow-cooker moonshine last month and you’re supposed to wait 30 days to sample. Yet, like a kid before Christmas, I couldn’t wait. I had to sneak a taste. Let me tell you this: it’s goooood. Like warm your soul in the dead cold of winter good.

Since there’s tons of honeycrisp apples, cinnamon and lemon, while the moonshine base is slow-cooking, it fills your home with the warm spices of apple pie. At the very end, you add Everclear and Vodka before putting in mason jars.

Since apple cider isn’t always easy to find when it’s not fall, I love to use Litehouse’s Honeycrisp version from the refrigerated section at the store. So delicious for (and kid friendly!) apple cider slushies too.

Slow-Cooker Apple Pie Moonshine

A delicious apple cider base is slow-cooked for a delicious twist on your typical moonshine. Be warned: this is deliciously STRONG.

Servings: 8 quarts
Ingredients
  • 1 gallon apple cider
  • 32 ounces apple juice Try Simply Apple!
  • 4 large apples, seeded and sliced
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 whole cinnamon sticks, plus more for jars
  • 1 lemon sliced, seeds removed
  • 1 liter Everclear grain alcohol
  • 1 liter vodka
Instructions
  1. Set slow cooker to HIGH for 4 hours. Add apple cider, apple juice, sliced apples, lemon, cinnamon sticks and sugars. Cook, stirring frequently. This will be the base of the moonshine. Once cooked, strain out apples and lemon slices.

  2. In a pint sized mason jar, add 1 cinnamon stick, 1/2 cup everclear and 1/2 cup vodka. Ladle strained moonshine base over alcohol, until almost the top of a jar. Use mason jar lid (I like the reusable ones!) to seal. Repeat until alcohol is gone (about 8-10 pints).

  3. Store moonshine in a cool, dark place for 30 days to finish. (Good luck waiting that long!). This will be good for up to a year!

  4. To serve: pour over ice or add lemon-lime pop for a cocktail.
