Making sure your dog still feels like family with a newborn around can be rough, but here’s a few tips to make them smile!
Let’s be real for a minute here: being the dog in the family when a baby is born is rough…or should I say “ruff” 🙂 . Liam is officially 2 months old and time has been limited for everything, including time with Rambo. I’d love to say that he has gotten all of the attention he deserves, but I haven’t been the best dog Mama lately. Luckily, the girls have been taking over some of my duties, they love to pay fetch outside with him! He loves when they’re in charge of treats, since they dish out quite a few more than I do!
We adopted Rambo from another family exactly 6 years ago this month. He was 3 and Gabby was 3 months. He fit in immediately and he’s always been so protective of the girls, especially Gabby. They grew up together. Rambo is a huge part of our family, and he deserves to be treated like family!
Late at night when Liam starts crying, guess who’s in there making sure everything is okay? Rambo. He’s constantly by my side, making sure I am safe and that Liam is okay and I couldn’t appreciate it more. I see the sad eyes he gives me when I’m feeding Liam, though. He wishes he was still the main boy in my life.
When I was stocking up on groceries at Meijer the other day (or honestly, getting a break from the chaos…), I picked up a few bags of Rambo’s favorite snacks: Milo’s Kitchen home-style dog treats. Be sure to take advantage of this mPerks offer of 30% off Milo’s Kitchen home-style dog treats now through 10/7 (while supplies last) before you head into Meijer today! Don’t you just love mPerks?!
Obviously, Rambo loves these treats but I appreciate that the USA made Milo’s Kitchen home-style dog treats not only look like jerky, sausage slices and meatballs, but actually are 100% real jerky, sausage slices and meatballs. Meat is actually the #1 ingredient! I usually buy a variety of large and smaller treats, he specially likes the large Chicken Jerky and Chicken & Apple Sausage. But let’s be real: he’d eat any of them!
When your time is limited, it’s essential to prioritize what really matters. Yes, we might have a few socks or papers laying around the house, but guess what? We’re all smiling! My sanity is at the top of my list, also. When sleep is limited and schedules are full, making time for myself is important. In the evenings, when I have a moment, I like to take Rambo out for a walk. I can listen to a podcast and he gets the exercise he needs. Win-win!
Other ways to make your dog feel special:
- Put your doggie on the chore list! The kids can help feed your dog daily, but add brushing the dog to the list too…outside, of course!
- Add 3 walks to your schedule. Putting them on the calendar makes them more permanent, right?
- Keep your treat jar stocked. Rambo knows at night, before bed, he gets his Milo’s Kitchen home-style treat right after his last bathroom break. A daily special treat makes them feel special!
