Cooking with Kids: Video | Plus a Giveaway!

posted on August 30, 20154 Comments

Cooking with Kids! Learn fun tips from 6 year old twins Maddie & Olivia.
So excited to announce we have a new video series with my girls: Cooking with Kids! My little ones love to help out in the kitchen and the Curious Chef knives have been a HUGE game changer.  Since safety is #1 priority, I was always hesitant to give my twins a knife to help, but I knew that they wanted to learn.  The Curious Chef knives actually cut food, but not little fingers. I love that they are under $10, too!

Their website offers much more than knives! For the holidays, I highly recommend checking out the cute aprons and other kitchen helpers if your little one loves to help you cook. Their prices are quite reasonable–Olivia loves to browse the site!
This summer, the girls started to earn allowance and Olivia went to the Dollar Tree to get her own measuring cups, teaspoons and more. She was browsed the area for about 15 minutes! While the girls don’t help me prepare EVERY meal, there are many ways your kids can help in the kitchen:
  • Washing lettuce and cutting veggies for a dinner salad. The salad spinner is a great tool to show them.
  • Fruit salads. This gets them excited to help pick out fruit and try new ones!
  • Buttering toast. I don’t let them use the toaster, but once I take out the bread, they can butter it.
  • Sandwiches- spreading the condiments and learning portion sizes.
  • Baking- learning measurements and following recipes is so fun for your kids! For cracking eggs, I always have a separate bowl handy.

Coming soon is a video about our favorite cookbooks. I have been checking out SO MANY cookbooks geared for kids and I have found some that feature great food and while making the recipes kid-friendly, yet don’t oversimplify food.  I really don’t like ones that just add sprinkles or peanut butter to a recipe and call it a day.  One new one that we LOVE is Your Kids: Cooking! by Barbara Brandt . There are step-by-step instructions and it even covers MyPlate and how much you should be eating of certain foods. I really loved the layout of this book!
Check out the video! We’re still learning, but I think it turned out pretty cute!

To celebrate the new blog AND a new video series, I thought I would do a giveaway!  Enter below to win a set of Curious Chef Knives AND the new Your Kids: Cooking book. Perfect way to get your little one started in the kitchen with you!

I like to involve my kids in everything we make. They like to make bread, cake the best. They mostly measure, pour and mix.

As a busy mom of 4, I love to create easy, yet delicious recipes taking a little help from the store. Everything on this site is easy to find in your favorite grocery store. I am quite the bargain shopper and I can spot a clearance sticker from a mile away.

Also check out my new line of cocktail kits, InBooze, which uses dehydrated produce to infuse your booze.
