A few weeks ago, I participated in the 2018 Grand Rapids Race for the Cure. If you’re interested in donating, please visit this site.

A few weekends ago, I participated in the 2018 Race for the Cure here in downtown Grand Rapids. I was so excited to participate in this on my own so I could really soak up the energy in the environment.
If you’re participating in a Race for the Cure, arrive early! I loved the Zumba to get my heart rate up before the 5K! There was also a DJ, light breakfast for before and after the race and booths filled with valuable information. The Survivor Walk is something that can’t be missed, especially seeing the sea of pink marching through the crowd.
It was so amazing to see the community that formed around me at this event. Yes, there were some somber moments, but it was also so uplifting to see so much positivity.
While browsing the booths, I stopped by the Valpak of West Michigan tent to meet Lia Rain Jensen. Since I did the race on behalf of Valpak, it was so nice to meet someone local. Did you know that Valpak will donate at least $50,000 to the Komen Foundation this year?
As part of the Valpak Deal Pro network, I see firsthand all of the awesome things the company does. In October, check your mailboxes for a PINK Valpak envelope with deals. This partnership has been formed to support men and women who have or will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
Once the race started, I noticed some fun teams around me. I loved to read the personalized shirts and high-five survivors. At certain points in the race, they had cheerleaders from local high schools and colleges to cheer us on.
